Let’s not forget the true meaning of Labor Day–to honor all the economic and social contributions of American workers.

Red, White & Yum: Fourth of July Cocktail

Are you daydreaming about 5 o’clock like we are? Kick off your Fourth of July with this refreshing and unexpected cocktail by Guy Fieri of Food Network. There are summer elements of sweet watermelon and cranberry, and a hint of a kick from a jalapeno!

What You’ll Need

  • 1 ounce watermelon schnapps
  • 1 big splash cranberry juice
  • 1 very thin slice jalapeno or serrano pepper
  • 1 slice lemon
  • 1 slice lime
  • 1 1/2 ounces tequila
  • 1/4 ounce blue curacao
  • 1/2 ounce simple syrup
  • Watermelon wedge, for garnish (optional)

Mix the schnapps and cranberry juice in a shaker; pour into an ice-filled glass.

Muddle the jalapeno pepper, lemon and lime slices, tequila, blue curacao and simple syrup (to make a batch, dissolve sugar in equal parts hot water and chill) in the shaker. Slowly strain into the glass over the red layer. Garnish with watermelon, if desired.

Memorial Day 2012 Party Decor Ideas

Memorial Day Weekend 2012 is fast approaching, and for many of us, it’s official-non-official kickoff to summer. Barbeques, parties, beach picnics.. but let’s not forget why we’re celebrating this holiday. Memorial Day reminds us of the men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice to protect this country, and make it so wonderful.

There are many ways to honor the holiday, but you can never go wrong with the classic red, white, and blue. From royal to turquoise, you can use different shades of blue in your party decor theme. You can also fuse a bit of vintage classic with some modern elegance with a few select decor items, like pinwheels and glass vases.
